West Cork Literary Festival 2012

The West Cork Literary Festival takes place  in Bantry, Co. Cork from the 8th to the 14th of July 2012. The popular literary festival will have everything any bookworm or aspiring author could hope for. From antiquarian book fairs, author talks and writing workshops, it’s got something for everyone!

An exciting new event in this years festival is Writer Idol. This unique event allows writers to submit a one page writing sample anonymously. Their work is then read by author and voiceover artist Kate Thompson in front of a panel of judges and a live audience. During the reading, the judges can put their hand up to say they have heard enough. Three hands up and the reading is stopped and the writing is discussed. If the judges don’t put their hands up, the author can revel in the fact that they have impressed them! It seems to be a fantastic way to get feedback on your work and I’m sure it is an event that will be emulated by other literary festivals taking place this year. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works out!
